Grillz Queen 3D Preview

A new way to design grillz: tap teeth on Grillz Queen's own 3D scans, add gold and diamonds, and watch the estimate follow.

Overview

Grillz Queen makes custom gold grillz. This is a preview of a new way to design them on their site, where the whole page is the mouth, built from their own upper and lower scans. Tap a tooth to add gold, drag to turn the mouth, choose a metal, diamonds or a design, and the estimate follows their published price list, line by line, in AUD or USD. It's a preview made for the client to try and answer: nothing is saved and no booking is made yet.

The idea

Choosing grillz is choosing teeth, so the page is the mouth. There's no chart beside a model: you tap the teeth themselves. Metal, Diamonds and Designs change the teeth you last touched, or one tooth at a time, and pressing a choice again takes it off and brings back whatever was there before.

What you can choose

Five metals: 9K, 14K and 20K yellow gold, 9K white gold and silver. 18K is left out at the client's request, and 20K is offered though the published price guide doesn't list it. Diamonds run from a single stone through a row, a window and full pavé to an open face; the designs are a heart, a four-point star and a flower. An open face, and a design cut into a gold tooth, are priced at the consult.

Diamonds that are traced, not painted

Each stone is a round brilliant with real facets, and the shader follows light through it: in through the crown, off two pavilion facets and back out somewhere else, split a little by colour. That's what makes a diamond read as one, and no shading of a white bead imitates it. The stones are placed for the picture: each style shows a number inside the price list's range, not a count for the bench.

Built light

One HTML page and three.js. The scanned jaws ship as a single file, and the sixteen gold shells are cut from the scan surface between each tooth's measured edges, worked out ahead of time by a script rather than in the browser. They're shells for the picture, not geometry for the bench.

Not connected yet

It's a preview, and it says so: nothing is saved and no booking is made. Coloured stones and the cross aren't offered yet. It ends with questions for Grillz Queen: Blush or Noir, whether the open face, window and pavé look like their pieces, which silver price is current, and how it feels on their own phone.
